Education
has been and must remain one of Kansas’ most valuable assets.
With the current economic situation in the State, I am committed
to collaborate, negotiate and fight, as necessary, for appropriate
funding of education for Kansas and the schools in the 10th District.
I support providing what the Kansas Constitution calls for a “suitable
provision for finance of the educational interests of the state”.
Growth
in Kansas. With 25 years working with businesses to foster their
growth, I know that growth is essential. I have worked with companies
to define and implement change to allow them to be more successful.
We need to attract new industries to Kansas, enhance our biosciences
initiatives and create jobs in the industries we have.
Healthcare.
More than 300,000 Kansans are currently living without health
care coverage – 90 percent of whom are from working families.
If we are going to fix our broken health care system, the legislature
must begin working to deliver true, viable solutions to the many
health care challenges facing our state.
The
Environment. This session the legislature spent an inordinate
amount of time on coal plants in western Kansas. 85% of the energy
output would have gone to states other than Kansas. But almost
all of the pollutants would have been ours. The governor offered
compromise the legislature rejected it. On the plus side the rebuilding
of a “green” Greensburg recalls the days when Kansas
was a national leader and a testing ground for new ways of doing
things.
Accountability.
We need results, we need people who can deliver those results
and be held accountable if they are not achieved. We cannot achieve
results with "politics as usual". We need people in
the Senate that are plain spoken, clear on their intent and willing
to stand up for the district. I believe that my success in the
legislature would be a natural extension of the successes I have
had in business.
